Instagram continues to release constant updates to stay on top of this new social media-driven battle royale we find ourselves in. The app recently underwent a major makeover when it introduced Reels to compete with short-form video social media app TikTok. Instagram has also just rolled out a new ‘QR code’ feature that makes it much easier for users to promote themselves. Here’s everything you need to know about it.
Simply put, a QR code is a link to digital media. It can be used to encode a website, an image, or any form of information. Many social media platforms already use some form of QR code that works internally within their app. The most famous of these is Snapchat’s Snapcode. This code must be scanned by a Snapchat camera in order to be read.
Instagram also introduced a similar internal QR code feature called 'Nametags' which contained your profile information, but could only be scanned by the Instagram camera. The new feature now creates QR codes that can be scanned by any camera app that supports QR code scanning (which is basically all camera apps). You can also print out your Instagram QR code and stick it on a flyer so that people can easily scan it with their phone camera and be taken to your profile!
