If your home has a lot of interior doors that lock, sooner or later you’ll either lose the key or lock him in the room (if the door even has a key), or find your toddler locked himself in and can’t get out. Calling a locksmith every time is inconvenient (and expensive); instead, learn to pick your own locks.
Opening a door handle lock
If the doorknob in question is a simple push button, you’re in luck. Usually, all you have to do is insert a paperclip into the hole and press the locking mechanism. If the doorknob has a slot on the outside, a butter knife should do the trick.
Locks with keys are a bit harder to open. But it is possible.
The easiest approach is to get a paperclip and a tension wrench. If you don't have a tension wrench handy, a very small Allen key (or even the other end of a paperclip) will do. The wrench will keep the tension on the lock while the paperclip picks the lock.
