Whether you need them for a mission or just want to explore, here's how to find and open Encrypted Safes and Encrypted Storage Boxes in The First Descendant.
The Encrypted Vaults come in three rarities that spawn depending on the type of Code Analyzer (key) you have in your inventory. If you ever see the Encrypted Storage Box in-game, it will be the Encrypted Vault of the most basic rarity that requires a normal Code Analyzer to open.
To find Encrypted Vaults and Encrypted Storage Boxes, use your scanner (the Tab key on your PC by default). You are not looking for visual queues, but for audio. When a vault is nearby and in your field of vision, the scan tone will be higher pitched than normal. You can test this by looking in different directions and using the scan. The sound will get louder as you get closer to the vault.
