For those who don’t know, the Clipboard is the temporary buffer space in your computer’s RAM that allows you to cut, copy, and paste files between applications. Each time you cut or copy an item, it is temporarily stored on the Clipboard until it is pasted or overwritten by another incoming item. Think of it as your device’s short-term memory, or a board where you can cut things before transferring them.

Because it is a temporary space, the clipboard by definition cannot be opened directly. But for certain items, such as text and images, there is a Windows feature called Clipboard History, and it is this clipboard that you can open.

First launched in 2018, Clipboard History is a clipboard manager that lets you interact with previously copied text and image items. You can work with up to 25 such items sent to the clipboard. But it’s not enabled by default on Windows. Here’s how to access and open your clipboard history.

You can also enable Clipboard History by using the keyboard shortcut Win+V and clicking Enable.
