Midjourney 5.2 introduces a Zoom Out tool that allows users to zoom out of images they create with the AI art generator in a way that extends the canvas beyond the existing outline without altering the content of the original image. You can use the existing options to zoom out of an image by 1.5x or 2x the original scale, or use the Custom Zoom option to apply your desired zoom level for creating images.
MidJourney Painter Tutorial
In many ways, Midjourney’s Zoom Out function works similarly to outpainting, by expanding the boundaries of the existing image by adding more elements and details. However, unlike the outpainting tools on DALL-E or Photoshop, the Zoom Out tool does not allow you to pan out of images that you have stored on your computer.
Currently, the Zoom Out option is only accessible when you scale up an image that you create in Midjourney. This can be any image that you create with the AI tool, even ones that you have created in the past. You can use any existing images that were generated with Midjourney, as long as they are still accessible in your Discord account.
However, Midjourney does not offer a Zoom Out option on images that you have saved to your computer or that you want to share from the web. This means that you cannot paint over existing images that were not created with Midjourney.
