This article explains how to automatically pair a Roku IR or Point Anywhere remote, reset or re-pair a remote, add a new remote, and unpair a remote.
How to Pair the Roku Remote | Tech Insider
Some Roku remotes use IR (infrared light) and require line of sight to work with a Roku. However, they do not actually need to be paired.
If your Roku came with an IR remote, insert the batteries (AA or AAA) and then point to the buttons you want to use and press them. You don't need to perform any other steps.
Standard and Enhanced Point Anywhere remotes, on the other hand, use RF (radio frequency), Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi Direct. They don’t require line-of-sight, but you do need to pair them with a Roku device before they work.
