Gone are the days of pausing your FaceTime video with a simple press of the home button so you could hide your relentless snacking from your loved ones. Before iOS 14 and its slew of new features, it was easy. Suddenly there’s a picture floating in the corner and everyone knows you’re not eating kale chips.
How to Pause FaceTime on iOS 14!
But fear not, there are ways to get back what was once lost. Below we will explain step by step how to disable picture in picture (affectionately called PIP) on iOS 14 and go back to the days of old.
PIP is a growing feature that was first introduced in the early 2000s on smart devices. As the name suggests, this feature shows a small window on your screen with your current content while allowing you to perform other actions on your device. Picture in Picture works on iOS 14 by minimizing your ongoing conversation to a small window in the bottom-left corner, from which you can perform other actions on your phone like sending emails, sending messages, making calls, etc. while keeping track of your ongoing conversation using the PIP window. It’s a great feature that comes with its drawbacks, namely in our case the inability to automatically pause your video feed during Facetime.
It was pretty easy to use Facetime up until iOS 13. You could start a call, talk whatever you wanted, and then just press the home button to pause your video feed. This allowed you to continue conversations via voice while you were doing things in your reality. These could be regular chores or emergencies that required both hands. A simple press of the home button would put your video call on hold and switch to a voice call, allowing you to stay connected while also maintaining your privacy.
