Screen recording can solve a lot of problems when it comes to your iPhone. You can use it to walk your family members through a problem on their device, record a long iMessage or WhatsApp conversation, or save a video you find online that you can’t directly download. While Apple doesn’t make it clear how to screen record on an iPhone, it’s pretty simple once you know how to set it up.
How to Record Your iPhone Screen
You can start a screen recording by tapping the record icon (the circle with a thick dot in it). Your iPhone will begin recording your screen three seconds after you tap this button. You can tap the button before this countdown ends to cancel the recording before it begins. When you're done recording, open the Control Center again and tap the record icon to stop recording.
By default, your screen recordings have no sound, and you can’t record the source audio from your iPhone. However, if you want to record audio from your iPhone’s microphone while recording your screen, open the Control Center and press and hold the recording icon. You’ll see a pop-up menu with a microphone button at the bottom of the screen. Tap the microphone button to turn it on, then start your screen recording. You can now speak while recording (or have your microphone pick up sound coming from your iPhone’s speakers) to add audio to the screen recording.
If you enable Do Not Disturb (DND) before you record, no notifications will appear during your screen recording. However, you don’t have to manually turn DND on and off every time you want to avoid notifications during screen recordings. Instead, you can automatically hide them. Once you set this up, DND will be activated as soon as you start recording and deactivated once you’re done.
