AirPods are tied to your Apple ID, and before you give away or sell your AirPods, you should remove them from your Apple ID. This article provides instructions for two ways to remove any model and generation of AirPods from an Apple ID.
How to Reset AirPods from Previous Owner
When you first set up AirPods, they’re connected to your Apple ID with Pairing Lock (the AirPods equivalent of iPhone Activation Lock). Apple uses Pairing Lock so you can track your AirPods with Find My and so all of your devices can recognize and connect to AirPods without having to set them up repeatedly.
If you don't remove the pairing lock before passing on your AirPods, the new owner won't be able to associate them with their Apple ID and use all of their features.
Before you give away or sell your AirPods, you can use the Find My app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to remove your Apple ID from your AirPods.
