Every time you save an image from the Reddit app, a large, annoying watermark is added to the image, including the subreddit hosting the image. At best, this extra border is an annoying ad from Reddit. At worst, it reveals the embarrassing subreddit you were viewing in the first place. You might not even notice it until it's too late, because it's far too easy to share an image from Reddit without seeing this watermark.
How to prevent Reddit from adding a watermark to images
Sure, it’s a good marketing move for Reddit, but not for you. It’s also a bit much to ask for a site to watermark content that was created for free by its users. Manually removing the watermark with software like Photoshop is a bit of a headache, given how intrusively it’s placed, but there’s an easy way to prevent Reddit from ruining every image you save.
There’s a rather obscure setting in the Reddit app that lets you remove watermarks from saved images. To find it, open the Reddit app and tap on your profile icon in the top right corner. Tap on Settings, which is near the bottom of the screen. Now, scroll down and turn off Saved Image Attribution.
The next time you save an image, Reddit won’t add the watermark. This also allows you to save images in better quality, as the watermark does seem to degrade the image a bit. (Another great reason to disable the feature.) Be aware, however, that this setting sometimes resets when the Reddit app is updated, so you may need to disable it again periodically. If that bothers you, you can always take a screenshot of the image on your iPhone or Android phone. That way, you’ll always bypass Reddit’s annoying watermark.
