These steps show you how to reseat each type of desktop memory. There are many types of memory that a PC can use, but the process for reseating them is the same for all types.
How to Reseat RAM
Memory modules are connected directly to the motherboard, so they are always inside the computer case. Before you can reseat the memory, you must turn off the computer and open the case so that you can access the modules.
Most computers come in either tower or desktop sizes. Tower cases usually have screws that secure removable panels on either side of the case, but sometimes have release buttons instead of screws. Desktop cases usually have easy-release buttons that allow you to open the case, but some have screws similar to tower cases.
Now it’s time to open your computer case. For screwless cases, look for buttons or levers on the sides or back of the computer that are used to release the case. If you’re still having trouble, consult your computer or case manual to determine how to open the case.
