You can reset your network router if you have forgotten the administrator password, if you have forgotten the wireless network security key, or if you want to troubleshoot connection issues.

There are several router reset methods that can be used depending on the situation. Hard resets, power cycling and soft resets are often recommended.

A hard reset is the most drastic way to reset the router. This reset is often performed when an administrator has forgotten the password or keys and wants to start over with new settings.

Because the software on the router is reset to its factory defaults, a hard reset will remove all customizations, including passwords, usernames, security keys, port forwarding settings, and custom DNS servers. However, hard resets do not remove or restore the currently installed version of the router firmware.
