While many people are all about the Apple or Windows/Android ecosystem, there are also people who spend their time on devices from different companies. This can lead to situations where people have to use Apple apps and services on Android, for example.

It’s actually gotten easier in recent years to access your Apple stuff from a phone running Google’s mobile operating system, but there’s definitely room for improvement. And to be clear, we’re not talking about moving all your data and files from Apple’s ecosystem to Android and leaving Apple behind. We’re talking about being able to access your emails, movies, files, and more via Android while still using Apple hardware.

Thanks to the magic of IMAP, you can access your Apple iCloud emails from the Gmail app for Android: From the main email tab, tap your account profile photo (top right), then choose Add Another Account and follow the prompts. Messages from different accounts will be kept separate, with their own notification settings. (You can switch accounts by tapping your account profile photo again.)

Unfortunately, it’s not so simple for contacts and calendar data: you can migrate this data from iOS and iCloud to Google if you no longer use your Apple devices. However, you can’t set up two-way sync and keep the channels open, as you can with the emails in your Apple inbox.
