Here's how to expand the scope of a Gmail search so you can find and recover any message, even if it's in Trash or Spam.
Enable Trash and Recover Deleted Emails in Gmail
To search all categories in Gmail:
Select the filter icon on the far right of the search bar.
A dialog box will appear. Select the down arrow to the far right of the Search item. Select Mail & Spam & Trash.
