We’ve told you before about JustWatch , a service that lets you search for a movie and find out where it’s available to stream or rent. But JustWatch also offers features to help you find a movie when you’re not sure what to watch, including a new feature that lets you search for movies and TV shows based on a plot description.

Get creative with your search by using the “Plot Recommender,” a tool to, as JustWatch calls it, “discover movies and TV shows based on a story.” Designed like a typewriter, the recommendation tool puts you in the screenwriter’s chair. You can type in a bunch of plot details, or just a single word, and the site will search its database for the perfect match using keywords. Granted, as with dating apps, your match probably won’t be 100% accurate, but it can be a good way to find a movie that suits your current mood or interest. Results will vary, to say the least; I typed in “sad” and my matches included a bunch of B-grade horror movies… that are kind of sad in concept. It’s a delicate process, but if you view it as a creative way to find something to watch, it can be fun.

Have fun with the text to see what the engine delivers. I wrote an original logline: "A magical creature must save the world by protecting a wizard's gemstone." The recommender captured the fantasy plot perfectly and offered titles like Legend, Dragonslayer, and The Dark Crystal.

Suffering from writer's block? The site offers the option to "Ghostwrite a story for me." Click it and a story unfolds before your eyes, generating a pitch — and some of the auto-typed stories are pretty intricate.
