The basic requirement for making a camp in Dragon's Dogma 2 is to have obtained some sort of Camping Kit. At the start of the game, a Modest Camping Kit will do just fine. After you have this in your inventory, look for a spot along the side of the road that has a campfire with a small clearing around it. As you approach the fire, the game will prompt you to either build a camp or reset your skills without building one.

You don't have to stray far from your main mission to find the Modest Camping Kit in Dragon's Dogma 2. As soon as I left Melve for the capital, accompanied by armed guards, I spotted a small clearing in the area marked on the map above. As I picked up the Modest Camping Kit, one of my Pawns warned me that we should probably scan the area for enemies.
