Apple’s AirTags have always been a great way to keep track of your stuff, but they had one major drawback: They could only be linked to one Apple ID at a time. That meant you and your partner couldn’t both keep track of the AirTag that could help you remember where you parked your car, for example.
How to Share an Airtag with a Family Member on iOS 17 (New Method)
Well, AirTags just got a whole lot more useful, thanks to iOS 17. With the new update, Apple finally lets you share your AirTag’s location with other people, which is great news for those of us who keep track of shared belongings like luggage or vehicles. Better yet, you can share AirTags with people outside of your Apple ID family member—as long as the person has an Apple ID, they can be added to your AirTags.
To share your AirTag with someone else, you'll first need to update your iPhone to iOS 17. (The same goes for anyone else you want to share your AirTag with.) Next, open the Find My app, go to the Items tab, and select your AirTag. Under "Share This AirTag," click Add Person. Now, click Continue in the popup and choose one of your contacts to share your AirTag with. You can also manually enter a person's phone number or email address. Click the + button to add more people to your AirTag. You can add up to six people per device. When you're done adding people, tap Share.
These people will now receive a notification from the Find My app. They can either tap the notification or go to the Find My app, select the Items tab, and tap Add to share your AirTag. If they don't want to, they can tap Don't Add.
