With the update to version 5.2, Midjourney introduced Variation Modes – this setting allows you to control how the AI tool varies your generated images. By choosing your preferred variation mode, you can control the visual nuance of varied images to look more or less different from the original images you generated with Midjourney.
How to Create Variations in Midjourney (How to Use the Midjourney Variation Tool)
Midjourney offers you two choices: High Variation Mode and Low Variation Mode. By default, the AI tool sets the content generation to “High Variation Mode” to ensure that all variation tasks are much more varied than before. If you want to generate results with better visual consistency, you can switch to Low Variation Mode at any time via the Midjourney settings.
In addition to these two modes, you also get two options to vary your results when upscaling images. When Midjourney generated an upscaled image:
The ability to switch between variation modes is available on the latest version of Midjourney, 5.2, so you don’t need to switch versions to access these options. To set your variation mode, open one of Midjourney’s servers or the Midjourney Bot on your server or Discord DM. From where you access Midjourney, click the text box at the bottom.
