During the beginning of the first chapter in Black Myth Wukong, you will meet the Keeper of Black Wind Mountain. This character will quickly transform you into a Golden Cicada once you reach the Outside the Forest shrine. Let's see if you can transform back into the Cicada later.
Black Myth: Wukong – Ultimate Beginner's Guide | How to Get the Perfect Start
When you enter the next area of the Forst of Wolves, you will be transformed into a Cicada by the dwarf. This is a one-time trick he teaches you so that you can sneak past enemies, and more importantly, the Wandering Wight boss that roams the forest. Once you de-transform back into your normal monkey form, there is no way to transform back into the Golden Cicada here. I tried respawning at the shrine but that didn't work either, but hopefully we'll get this transformation spell later in the game.
You’ll soon come across the boss Wandering Wight, who can be tough to defeat, but you can get past him in Cicada form if you keep a good distance. If you’re detransformed, you can still get past unnoticed. Wait for the Wandering Wight to walk the other way and run to the left (see image above). Enter the small passage and you’ll be safe from there. I recommend coming back later and fighting the boss to get some cool items and points.
While you can’t transform back into the Golden Cicada, you can acquire spells to take on other forms in Black Myth Wukong. In the same region, instead of following the straight path, go left and you’ll come across a giant meditating wolf—Guangzhi (see first image). Learn his attack patterns and you should be able to defeat the boss in a few tries, if not the very first. Pick up his dropped weapon (second image) and you’ll add the Red Tides spell to your character. This transformation spell allows you to transform into Guangzhi for a brief moment and use his attack techniques.
