So you finally got the iOS 18.1 Apple Intelligence update, you made it through the waitlist, and you enabled the Notification Summary feature when you signed up. It makes sense: you’re curious, and it’s easy to do. And, as Apple says, you can turn it off and customize it later in Settings.

Well, now is later. If you’ve been using Notification Summaries for a while, you might be wondering if they’re all that useful. The new Apple AI feature uses local LLMs to automatically summarize multiple messages from the same chat or a group chat into one concise sentence. It can also do this for long iMessage threads and emails.
But the summaries aren’t always accurate. Sometimes they can be way off, in my experience. If you find this feature more annoying than helpful, you can easily disable it for all apps here, or just the Messages or Mail apps.
You can also disable the Summary Previews feature on a per-app basis. In the Summary Previews screen itself, you’ll see a list of all installed apps that can send you notifications. From here, scroll down and tap the toggle next to the app you want to disable summaries for. Now all notifications from that app will appear as they used to.
