This article explains three ways to disable VoiceOver on a Mac, plus how to re-enable the keyboard shortcut if you've disabled it in the past. Instructions apply to macOS Big Sur (11.0) through OS X Tiger (10.4).
Turn VoiceOver on and off on Mac
VoiceOver is a convenient screen reader built into macOS for Apple desktop and laptop computers. It reads the text of web pages and documents aloud, helping people with visual impairments navigate the web and use their computers. If you accidentally turn it on or want to turn it off at the end of a session, you can turn it off with keyboard shortcuts or in System Preferences.
The easiest way to turn off VoiceOver is with a two-button keyboard shortcut. Hold down Command+F5.
The Command+F5 keyboard shortcut also turns VoiceOver back on, so if you accidentally press it again, you'll re-enable it. Usually this isn't a problem, because a pop-up will pop up and give you the option to turn VoiceOver off right away.
