You found the perfect photo of that New York Blizzard, or a gorgeous photo of whatever lunch you were particularly proud of, posted it, and then deleted it for whatever reason. And now that you’ve thought about it more, life just won’t be the same without that particular Instagram post. How could you? There has to be a way to recover a deleted Instagram post — right? Right?

Technically, you couldn’t undo an Instagram post without Archives or Stories if you deleted it before it was exactly one day old — i.e. 24 hours. And god forbid the worst happens and some not-so-respectable citizen gets access to your account and deletes everything — Archives included.

However, Instagram recently announced that they would be rolling out a new feature called Recently Deleted, which would protect deleted messages from eternal oblivion for up to 30 days — sort of like a spam or trash folder. The company says the new Recently Deleted option isn’t just meant to help the indecisive among us, but rather to protect against hackers and trolls.

It is important to note that most deleted items, such as photos, videos, reels, etc., will remain in the Recently Deleted section for a month. However, Stories are permanently removed from the Recently Deleted section once they are 24 hours old. This is the exact opposite of how it used to be.
