This article explains how to unlock and lock the touchpad on your HP laptop. How this works depends on your specific laptop and whether you have the latest drivers installed, so you may need to try multiple methods.
Disable Touchpad on HP Laptops
If you have an HP laptop with a Synaptics Touchpad, you may be able to unlock the touchpad by quickly pressing it. Simply double-tap the upper-left corner of the touchpad. You may see a small light in that same corner turn off. If you don't see the light, your touchpad should now be working—the light will glow when it's locked. You can also disable the touchpad in the future by performing the same action.
Some Synaptics Touchpads also respond to a long, five-second press in the upper-left corner. Try that instead if double-tapping doesn't work.
Some older HP laptops have a special switch next to the touchpad to turn it on and off. You can recognize it by the indicator light. If the small LED is yellow, orange or blue, the touchpad is locked. Double-tap the sensor to turn the touchpad back on.
