If your Mac is currently running macOS Mojave (10.14) or later, get upgrades in your Mac’s System Preferences. If your Mac is running macOS HighSierra (10.13) or earlier, get updates through the App Store.
If you have a recent version of macOS, you can reach the Software Update window by first going to System Preferences. You can use this method to update from the previous two versions of macOS. For example, you can use this method to upgrade to Big Sur (11.0) from macOS Catalina (10.15) or Mojave (10.14). Here's how:
