Vlogging is still a relevant medium. YouTube offers an endless stream of vloggers covering almost every topic imaginable. But you would think that you have to spend thousands of dollars to make a vlog. That is not the case. One way to up your vlogging game is with a GoPro camera. These cameras work exceptionally well for vlogging if you use them correctly and work with the right equipment.

How to Use GoPro for Vlogging (Beginner Tips)

The first thing you need to understand when using your GoPro for vlogging is that lighting is essential. Since these cameras are made for filming action shots outdoors, they need a lot of light. That doesn’t mean you have to spend a ton of money on professional cinematic lighting. However, you do need to spend some money on lighting that serves its purpose, otherwise your vlogs will come out dull, grainy, and generally unprofessional.

One of the best lights you can buy for vlogging with a GoPro is an LED panel. A good example is the Neewer Dimmable Bi-Color LED . You should buy at least two of these lights. You will also need a way to mount them so that they are in front of and above you (pointing down towards your stage). You can purchase stands or you can go the DIY route and mount them to a ceiling or wall. However you mount them, make sure that they are above and in front of you, as well as behind your camera.

You also want to make sure that you turn off all other lights and that there is no external ambient light shining into your filming area. You also only want to have one color of light available, otherwise you are going to have trouble getting the white balance right. We usually go for as bright a white as possible (in LED terms, think daylight).
