According to best estimates, the PlayStation 5 offers 667GB of space for your games out of the box, after factoring in all of the essential operating system files. That’s a pretty big chunk of storage, but then again, modern games take up a fair amount of space, often running into the tens or even hundreds of gigabytes of storage per title.

How to Copy and Save PS5 Game Data to USB Drive (Quick Tutorial)

You can continue to rotate the games you’ve installed on your PS5, but that will mean re-downloading them often. To save some time and bandwidth, you can also plug an external drive into one of the console’s USB-A or USB-C ports and store games there. You’ll still need to move them to internal storage when you want to play them, but it’ll be a lot faster than waiting for a download.

Older games made for the PS4 can be run directly from external storage as they are less demanding on system resources, so it's also a good way to port games from an older console.

Before we talk about external drives, the PS5 also has an internal SSD slot that you can use to add extra storage: it works much the same as the built-in storage, and can run PS5 games on it, though you will need to use a screwdriver and open up the console. It's a fairly involved process, though; Sony has a comprehensive guide here.
