If you have an Apple Watch Series 4, Series 5, or Series 6, use the ECG app to monitor your heart rate and rhythm without your iPhone, essentially creating an electrocardiogram. The ECG app uses your wearable’s electrical heart sensor to detect potential problems, like atrial fibrillation (AFib). Here’s how to use the ECG app on your Apple Watch.

Before you begin, make sure the ECG feature is set up on the Health app on your paired iPhone. If this is your first time using the Health app, you will be prompted to complete all setup instructions, including installing the ECG app.
If you haven't already set up the ECG app in the Health app, tap Browse > Heart > Electrocardiograms, then tap Set Up ECG App.
