It’s a plug-and-play solution designed to let you use higher-quality cameras for videoconferencing, but has the side effect of allowing you to effectively use your iPad as an external display for virtually any device.
To use an iPad as a display for a Nintendo Switch, you'll need an adapter that converts HDMI to USB using the UVC standard. When you use this configuration, the iPad thinks you have an external webcam connected and displays the converted HDMI signal. You can view this video input via FaceTime or using a standalone app.
