Ever wanted to fly in Minecraft, but you could only do it in Creative mode? Elytra doesn’t necessarily let you fly, but it’s a pretty close call.

Elytra is an item that is placed in the slot of the chest plate, allowing you to glide and travel long distances without touching the ground. To initiate flight, you must jump while your character is falling in-game. Elytra can be found in Minecraft's End Cities. Elytra can also be found hanging in an Item Frame on an End Ship.

If you jump off a high ledge and fall directly to the ground, you will take fall damage due to the speed at which you are moving. If you slide down slightly, you will gain speed and be able to travel longer distances.

When you float and go up, you will stop and start falling, losing your distance and height. You can't jump and fly up directly. The best way to fly is to jump from a high place to get immediate distance between you and the ground.
