How to use the FIND function in Excel

The Excel FIND function allows you to find the position of a given string within a given selection.

Excel's FIND function can be used by itself to produce the position of the character, as in the image below, but it is more often nested within other functions. When you nest it with LEFT, RIGHT, and MID, you can extract and remove bits of information from a cell.
