This article explains how to use Excel's TRUNC function. This is a rounding function that allows you to truncate (shorten) the target number to a specified number of decimal places without rounding off the remaining digits or the entire number.
The Excel TRUNC Function
This example describes the steps you need to take to enter the TRUNC function in cell B4 in the image above, thereby truncating the mathematical value of Pi in cell A4 to two decimal places.
Options for entering the function include manually typing the full function =TRUNC(A4,2), or using the function dialog box – as described below:
The function rounds numbers only if the Num_digits argument is a negative value (rows seven through nine above).
