This article explains how to set up your iPad as a MIDI controller using a Mac. This information applies to iOS versions 4.2 and later and Macs running OS X 10.4 or later. The article also includes information about setting up MIDI over Wi-Fi using Windows PCs running Windows 7 through 10.
Using your iPad as a wireless MIDI controller
Musician apps can turn your iPad into a sophisticated controller and awesome music maker, but you still need to route those signals to your Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). You may be surprised to hear that iOS has supported wireless MIDI connections since version 4.2, and Macs running OS X 10.4 and later support MIDI Wi-Fi. While Windows doesn’t support wireless MIDI by default, there’s an easy way to get it working on your PC, too.
Connecting to an iPad on a Mac is relatively easy, but you do need to dig into the MIDI settings and know where to go to set up the connection.
Launch Audio MIDI Setup on your Mac. The quickest way to do this is to open the Launchpad in the Dock, type Audio MIDI setup , and click the app icon when it appears.
