Huawei has confirmed the launch of its next smartwatch, the Huawei Watch 3, and that the new device will be one of the first to use the new Android-like operating system HarmonyOS.
Huawei Watch 3 – HarmonyOS 3 Update – What's New!?
Huawei has finally announced that HarmonyOS, its Android competitor, will be launching on June 2. The new operating system has been in development since 2019 and will power the Huawei Watch 3 and other new Huawei devices once they are released. Not much is known about the OS’s features or overall design yet, but Android Authority reports rumors that it will bring improved battery life, eSim support, and all-day body temperature monitoring.
Development of HarmonyOS began after the US ban on the Chinese tech company in 2019. Following that ban, major companies began withdrawing support for Huawei, eventually leading Google to even revoke Huawei's Android license, forcing it to use the open-source version that modders use to create custom ROMs (essentially operating systems that users can download and install on their Android phones).
Now, after a few years of development, we finally get our first look at the new operating system, which will serve as a competitor to Android in markets where Huawei is active. There have been a few leaks showing images of what the operating system looks like, but no firm announcements have come from the manufacturer itself.
