Tired of pop-ups constantly asking you to enable cookies, or pop-ups asking you to sign up for a newsletter? A free, open-source extension for Safari called Hush means you’ll never see them, along with the hassle of nagging you to do things like turn on notifications. It’s the kind of thing you install and then forget about until you’re using someone else’s computer or phone, and then you wonder how anyone lives without it.

13 Essential Safari Extensions for iPhone and Mac

Hush is not an adblocker, although it does use the same Safari features as adblockers. Joel Arvidsson, who created and maintains the tool, states that it has "absolutely no access to your browsing habits or passwords" and that it does not track behavior.

After you install Hush, you’ll want to make sure the extension is enabled in Safari. On a Mac, you can do this by opening Safari, opening Safari settings, and going to the Extensions tab. Make sure “Hush” is checked. On an iPhone or iPad, you’ll need to open the Settings app, scroll down and open Safari, scroll to an open Extensions tab. Make sure Hush is checked.

Then you're done: Hush runs in the background and blocks various annoyances. The entire application is half a megabyte, which means it won't have a significant impact on your system's performance.
