The BBC board of governors has expressed its support for the decisions taken by management over the Huw Edwards scandal, while taking steps to claw back the presenter's salary and launch an independent review into the company's culture.
In a statement released on Friday, the board addressed the recent events surrounding Edwards, who recently pleaded guilty to making indecent images of children. The board reviewed the BBC's handling of complaints and investigations ahead of Edwards' dismissal on April 22, 2024.
“The council supports the decisions taken by the Director-General [Tim Davie] and his team during this period,” the statement said, citing considerations of legal obligations, available information, duty of care and accountability for public funds.
