One of the biggest names on Twitch and in the streaming world, Asmongold, has come out with a reflective video and apology over his comments about the Palestinian people. The streamer said he felt like “a dumb asshole” and promised to do better in the future.

The YouTuber and streamer expressed these and other sentiments in an October 16 video, made following his suspension from Twitch after making several derogatory comments about the Palestinian people. He said that Palestinians are “terrible people” with an “inferior culture,” and has now walked back those statements, acknowledging that they were broad generalizations and poorly worded. He also added that after the ban, he received messages from people who were Palestinian themselves or had friends and family in the region, which he said made him feel like “a stupid, aggressive, fucking asshole.”

The creator also said that he does not condone religious extremism and that he would never support a religion or other group that seeks to harm others. This anti-religious extremism sentiment, Asmongold says, led him to falsely generalize an entire people and culture, for which he has now apologized.

Asmongold also reflected on his past behavior in general, aside from this most recent incident. The streamer claimed that he had deteriorated into a "mean" and otherwise nasty person over the past two years, and indicated that even his father had told him to "calm down" and tone down his behavior. He says that the ban itself didn't make him anxious or angry, but rather "relaxed" because he could finally think about other things in life and not just streaming. "I think I'm going to cut back on streaming quite a bit," he added.
