It’s been almost 20 years since the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) role-playing game came out. While the title was extremely successful and beloved by the Star Wars community, I’m glad they waited this long to do a proper remake.
The KOTOR remake is reportedly STILL happening!! #starwars #remake
I remember booting up KOTOR for the first time and diving into the story that BioWare had created. It was an incredible time, and one that brought me even closer to a world that I had come to adore thanks to films and other video games of the time. But it was also the first time that such an in-depth look into that universe was given. The first time that I truly felt like I could do something to influence that world. I think many others in this situation felt the same way, and KOTOR has meant a lot to many who call RPGs home over the years.
For all the love I have for the game – and all the times I’ve dreamed of a remake – I’m glad it’s taken this long. Sure, it’s no fun having to play through a clunky, outdated version, but the fact that the original hasn’t aged well also means we’re less likely to get a lazy remake that will leave fans old and new wishing it hadn’t happened.
With almost 20 years under its belt, KOTOR is perhaps one of the most beloved RPGs out there. However, in its current state, the game plays very clunky when compared to more modern RPGs. The graphics just don’t hold up well, and neither does the overall gameplay. This makes it extremely difficult to replay or recommend to RPG lovers who want to experience the story.
