Online Roulette published a new survey of 788 self-identified LGBTQ+ gamers detailing their experiences. The findings show that they experience increased levels of harassment and discrimination compared to their cisgender and heterosexual counterparts. Approximately 88% of those who are out in their gaming communities have experienced harassment in the past year.
“Our research shows that online gaming continues to face a significant harassment problem, with half of LGBTQ+ gamers still feeling uncomfortable openly discussing their sexual identity with their gaming community,” the report said.
“And while society as a whole may not be the supportive environment that sexually diverse gamers need, specific gaming communities offer LGBTQ+ gamers support and friendship, as well as fun.”
