Amid growing distrust and Senate hearings, Instagram has quietly rolled out a new feature aimed at limiting the amount of time teens spend on the app, especially at night. According to the changes, Instagram will encourage teens to “consider closing Instagram for the night.”
Teens Are Now Being 'Encouraged' To Get Off Instagram At Night
These “nighttime nudges” occur when teens spend more than 10 minutes on the app late at night.
While the Meta-owned app will remind teens that “it’s getting late” and encourage them to close the app, very little has been done to stop teens from using the app at night. After all, there’s nothing stopping teens from ignoring the nudge and continuing to use Instagram.
Even if the implementation is seen as ineffective, it is at least a step in the right direction. The question is: where do we go from here?
