Chances are you’ll need to install Windows 7 from a USB drive if you have a tablet, a small laptop, or a netbook. Many of these devices come with an optical drive by default.
Install Windows 7 from a USB (flash drive, external HD)
You will need to migrate the Windows 7 installation files to a flash drive (or USB storage) and then boot from that flash drive to begin the Windows 7 installation process. However, simply copying the files from your Windows 7 DVD to a flash drive will not work. You will need to prepare the USB device specifically and then properly copy the Windows 7 installation files to it before it will work as you expect.
You may be in a similar situation, but it's a bit easier to solve, if you purchased a Windows 7 ISO file directly from Microsoft and need it on a flash drive.
Regardless of the situation you are in, simply follow the instructions below to install Windows 7 from a USB device.
