Some new desktop computers do not come with a CD or DVD drive. While buying an external optical drive is certainly an easier option, you can install an internal drive as long as your computer has a slot for it. This guide will show you how to install a CD drive.
Install a CD drive
Below is the correct method for installing an ATA-based optical drive in a desktop computer using a Phillips screwdriver.
Power down the PC completely. After the computer has been safely shut down, turn off the internal power supply by flipping the switch on the back of the power supply and unplugging the power cord.
Open the computer to install the CD or DVD drive. The method for opening the case varies by computer model. Most computers use a panel or door on the side of the computer. Older computers may require you to remove the entire case. Remove and set aside any screws that secure the case or panel to the computer case, and then remove the case.
