Apple announced iOS 15, detailing many of its features during its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on Monday. While the company discussed a number of additions to the updated operating system, there simply wasn’t enough time to cover them all. One that flew under the radar is the introduction of an authenticator, similar to Authy or Google Authenticator.
MacRumors reports that the included authentication system will allow iOS users to generate verification codes for their various accounts directly from the Settings app on the iPhone.
Multi-factor authentication (sometimes referred to as two-factor authentication or 2FA) has become one of the most secure ways to add protection to your online accounts. In the past, users relied on third-party apps like Google Authenticator, although Apple’s included authentication system should eliminate the need to rely on those third-party apps.
