iOS users with an iPhone XS or later can use the T-Mobile Network Test Drive app to try out the carrier's service right away. No mobile hotspot is required.
iPhone users: try T-Mobile's network for FREE | T-Mobile
T-Mobile’s Network Test Drive app works with the eSIM technology found in newer iPhones to bypass the need for a mobile hotspot. As long as you have an iPhone XS or newer running iOS 14.5 or later, your phone is unlocked, and you’re not currently using an eSIM, all you need to do is download the app and follow the prompts. You’ll then be able to try out T-Mobile’s network for 30 days or 30GB of data, whichever comes first.
According to T-Mobile, your primary number will remain active for calls and texts during the trial, but you can also use a temporary number if you prefer. T-Mobile recommends setting your primary carrier as your default line, but you can always change this later. Once the trial ends, the eSIM profile will be deactivated and you will be returned to your original carrier.
eSIMs allow users to create multiple SIM profiles that they can download and switch between at will, without having to physically swap out their smartphone’s SIM card. As LightReading notes, eSIMs also offer a service that allows you to automatically switch carriers, giving you a stronger signal or a cheaper network.
