This article explains how to set up and use Touch ID on iPhone. Information applies to iOS 7 or later on iPhone 8 and iPhone 7 series, and iPhone 6s. Touch ID is also available for iPad mini 4 and 5, iPad Air 2 and 3, and the 1st and 2nd generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
iPhone 6s: Set up Touch ID fingerprint scanner
Built into the Home button, Touch ID lets you unlock your iOS device by pressing your finger on the Home button instead of typing in your passcode. Once you set up Touch ID, you no longer have to re-enter your passcode for every iTunes Store or App Store purchase. A fingerprint scan is all it takes.
To set up Touch ID on a compatible iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, simply press your fingers a few times, and you're good to go.
