Ah. Among Us. It seemed like the one game to rule them all, for a while. As simple as it was genius, it was one of the most pro-social, anti-social games ever made; you needed friends you loved and trusted, but only so you could then betray them by gleefully stabbing them in the back. And indeed, Among Us made for great TV, which is one of the reasons it was picked up by the masses years after its initial release to become one of the most popular games in the world — for a while.

What better story could there be for a charming little game like Among Us? Gathering dust in a dimly lit corner of the Steam store for years, serving a respectable but unassuming audience, only to be chosen seemingly out of nowhere by the gaming gods and exalted above all other games?
It was a wild, phenomenal thing to watch as Among Us rocketed through charts after charts, outpacing venerable behemoths like League of Legends, Fortnite, and Call of Duty. It was a story as compelling as its simple mechanics, and millions of people jumped on the game in a time of lockdowns and quarantines.
But the Skeld feels a lot emptier these days, doesn’t it? You can actually enter the top room on the first page now. Is something going on? Is Among Us dying?
