Gaming has had a thriving culture and community for decades. While the medium has historically had negative connotations, perceptions have since shifted to the point where studies, such as a recent article from the Harvard Business Review, show how it’s a force for good in the workplace.

The article, published on Thursday, October 3, notes that studies have suggested that gaming can build cognitive, social and emotional skills relevant to organizational success. Engaging in gaming can be just as positive as other hobbies, such as sports, cooking and more. The article suggests that gaming promotes workplace productivity and maintains stable mental health.
More specifically, gaming categories such as tabletop role-playing games and board games, like Dungeons and Dragons, "have been shown to boost social interaction, creativity, teamwork, empathy and other skills beneficial" to the workforce. These games also help strengthen communication and collaboration skills, and strike a balance between cooperation and competition.
Citing another report from Harvard Business Review, the article notes that since TTRPGs are collaborative by nature, using gaming-related metaphors in the workplace instead of sports metaphors avoids the emphasis on rivalry. It goes on to suggest that TTRPG metaphors "can encourage employees to view the organization as a league of heroic adventurers, using their complementary skills to perform epic deeds across the realm."
