It’s been four years since Phasmophobia hit Steam as an early access title. In that time, the game has established itself as one of the platform’s most unique horror experiences. So, how much does the game cost? And more importantly, is it free-to-play?

No, Phasmophobia is not free to play. Since the game is still in Early Access on Steam, developer Kinetic Games needs all the money it can get to get it ready for version 1.0 when it's ready. Thankfully, the game doesn't have any additional microtransactions or DLC, so you get everything the game has to offer for one modest price.
Additionally, Phasmophobia wasn’t built from the ground up to be a free-to-play title. While it would be great if everyone could access this horror game without any upfront costs, there simply isn’t anything to monetize in the game at the moment. Unlike games like Dead by Daylight, which charge players for Killers and Survivors, it would be strange for Phasmophobia to start selling various ghosts, gear, or extra levels while it’s still in development. Things could certainly change in the future, and we think it’s more likely that the game will receive one-off DLCs at its full launch rather than going free-to-play.
Phasmophobia costs $13.99 on Steam and has done so since the game originally launched. Despite the game dropping content regularly since its release, the developer has yet to increase the price. It's safe to assume that Phasmophobia will increase in price once it leaves early access.
