It's been over a year since The Last of Us aired on HBO. The showrunners are currently filming the second season, but there could be many more seasons to come.

HBO previously hinted that The Last of Us Part 2's story could be split into more than one season. However, the latest interviews with the series' showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann suggest that it could even be spread out over three seasons.
"The story material that we got from Part II of the game is much more than the story material that was in the first game, so part of what we had to do from the beginning was figure out how to tell that story across seasons," Mazin told Deadline on June 5. When it comes to planning future seasons, the showrunners are looking at "natural break points" that can wrap up seasons, so they already know how many episodes the second one will contain.
“When you do that, you look for natural breaking points, and the way we laid it out this season, it felt like the national breaking point came after seven episodes,” Mazin said.
