WhatsApp is apparently working on giving you the ability to react to messages (i.e. add an emoji to them), similar to iMessage or Instagram.
All iOS 17 FaceTime reaction gestures!
According to WABetaInfo, the latest Android beta for WhatsApp has a secret: message reactions! Or at least it has the implication of message reactions. The latest beta does not have working reactions yet. Instead, it gives users a message that they need to update to be able to see reactions.
While reactions aren’t currently available, it’s clear that WhatsApp is working on incorporating them. Any additional details are still unknown at this time, so it’s uncertain how exactly reactions to messages will work.
WhatsApp could offer a small selection of reactions to choose from, similar to Facebook. It could do something as simple as a single “Like” button. It could allow you to choose from all available emojis, like we see in apps like Slack or Discord. For now, we can only speculate.
