Arena Breakout Infinite launched in early access on PC on August 13, with hundreds of players flooding the servers. But many players quickly realized the game’s pervasive pay-to-win elements, and they’re not happy.
Launch Day PAY TO WIN Bait and Switch!? — Arena Breakout: Infinite
Immediately after Arena Breakout Infinite launched, multiple posts about the game’s pay-to-win system flooded Reddit. Frustrated players complained that the game was pay-to-win, even though the developer didn’t reveal this information up front.
"I'm just shocked at the amount of people defending this… Games have just brainwashed people. This wouldn't have happened 5 or 10 years ago," reads one of the top posts on the game's subreddit.
Other players have delved into the details behind Arena Breakout Infinite's pay-to-win mechanics, with many arguing that the free loot you get for playing isn't good enough, which could be a deliberate decision to encourage you to spend money. "The problem is STILL that you're not buying Koens [in-game, purchasable currency], it's that loot is worthless to encourage you to buy Koens. If loot had a fair value like [in] Escape from Tarkov and I could reliably pistolrun from zero to hero then that would be fine […] but Tencent decided to make it difficult here by making everything worthless," one player wrote.
